RIG ELECTRICIAN PROGRAMME (REP)

 

Introduction

The intermediate level Rig Electrician Programme (REP) forms a part of the tri-level educational curriculum of the ModuSpec Academy (Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced levels) and is specifically aimed at drilling maintenance staff.  It has been is designed for all who wish to specialise as Electricians within drilling departments and forms the next step for candidates who have completed ModuSpec's Rig Electrical Course (REC).

 

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at maintenance staff of drilling departments, and is particularily recommended for:

  • Electrical maintenance staff who are candidates for promotion
  • New employees who have successfully completed their probationary period
  • Apprenticeship personnel in the electrical discipline
  • Electricians in heavy industry sectors
  • Mining and marine industry personnel
  • Defence force personnel with an electrical background 

 

Objectives

The aims of this programme are to:

  • Expose trainees to various types of equipment, operating procedures, compliance regulations, maintenance tasks and general rig electrical operations
  • Ensure a smooth transition into the drilling industry, in order to fulfil the role of a Rig Electrician
  • Ensure that Rig Electricians are familiar with the components, safe operation and maintenance of electrical systems on a drilling unit
  • Present the fundamental components of both land and offshore drilling rigs; through the use of field-based exercises and assessments, trainees are challenged to apply new skills in relation to the identification, location, layout and functioning of rig electrical equipment
  • Use industry generic planned maintenance procedures to ensure that maintenance is carried out to the expected standard and that the systems are understood

 

Course Content

ModuSpec's Rig Electrician Programme entails an extensive overview of much of the equipment configuration associated with drilling units, and ongoing learning is a key component of the programme.

 

Structure

The programme consists of both a theoretical and practical component, split into two 5-day classroom sessions. Between the two sessions the trainees are required to complete tasks, practical assignments and exams at the end of each session to ensure competence in their chosen field.

Qualifications

Upon successful completion of the Rig Electrician Programme, the candidates will receive a ModuSpec Certificate of Completion or, in case of a final exam score below 70%, a ModuSpec Certificate of Attendance.

 

Duration

The REP is comprised of a 5-day in-class session, followed by approximately 6 months of on-the-job work assignments and assessments, completed by a 5-day classroom session.

ModuSpec's tri-level educational curriculum, candidates who have successfully completed this training programme and would like to extend their knowledge might also be interested in attending ModuSpec's Advanced Rig Electrician Programme (AREP).
