Jaap Peetsold graduated in 1974 and started his career as a Marine Engineer. He worked in this position on large vessels for 6 years. Thereafter, Jaap spent several years on a drill ship; first as a Third Engineer and later as a Subsea Engineer. Following this, he became Senior Mechanic on a jack-up and later held the position of Subsea Supervisor for 8 years until he joined ModuSpec Engineering in 1994.
After having worked as a ModuSpec Surveyor for more than 6 years and having conducted in excess of 150 inspections on all unit types worldwide, Jaap's next challenge was to further develop ModuSpec's Training Department. He became a Certified Trainer (CT) and a member of IBCT (International Board of Certified Trainers).
Jaap has been designing, writing and delivering training for ModuSpec ever since.
Jaap first designed two ModuSpec Rig Inspection Workshops (RIW); one specifically aimed at land rigs and one specifically aimed at floating rigs, which are currently still being provided globally by ModuSpec. In 2000 Jaap wrote ModuSpec's Subsea Engineer Programme (SSEP), a training which became extremely successful and is still being presented to candidates worldwide. Furthermore, Jaap developed ModuSpec's introductory Well Control Equipment Course (WCEC) for land rigs and floating rigs - all of these courses and workshops are IADC accredited. Jaap recently finished the latest training which is part of the Well Control Discipline: ModuSpec's Advanced Subsea Engineers Programme (ASSEP).
Jaap presently holds the position of ModuSpec Training Manager and besides this he actively trains an average of 22 weeks per year. A lot of Jaap's time is also allocated to updating existing and developing new course material as well as grading assignments of candidates participating in the Well Control Discipline.
Jaap Peetsold says:
ModuSpec's training enables the participant / trainees to have a greater understanding of drilling equipment, not only of how it works but also the logic behind why it is designed in this way. The entry test results prove that our training is very necessary. I train because I believe I am capable of transferring knowledge efficiently and I am a ‘people person'. I enjoy debating with candidates and it is very rewarding to see how their knowledge improves when "the penny drops". It is important to me that I perform at my best during the training which I have designed and consequently all training material must be optimal. ModuSpec provides candidates with a tremendous amount of practical knowledge and helps them to perform better and safer in their jobs - Making the drilling industry safer is my calling!
