Alan Macfarlane started his career serving as an Apprentice Electrician and working underground with the National Coal Board (UK). Thereafter Alan spent 10 years in the paper industry. He then entered the oilfield in the North Sea, where he worked for many years on mobile and fixed drilling units for different companies holding various positions, at different levels, including management.
Alan joined ModuSpec as a Surveyor in 2000 and has conducted inspections of diverse drilling units all over the world under all conditions from blistering deserts and sweltering jungles to frozen landscapes and stormy seas.
Since 2008, parallel to his surveyor activities, Alan has been developing the Electrical part of ModuSpec's Training Programme (Introductory REC, Intermediate REP and Advanced AREP). He also started sharing his knowledge with others as a Certified Trainer: Alan is an Associate Member of the Institute of Training and Occupational Learning (ITOL - London).
Alan Macfarlane says:
As a Trainer and Senior Surveyor I want to give the industry, and in particular electrical staff, help in moving along the learning curve. Nothing is more important than experience and if some experiences can be discussed and used for training, candidates can be better equipped for the climb ahead.
